Sustainable development is becoming an increasing statutory requirement of Planning Authorities and funding bodies together with social trends and responsibilities to reduce our Carbon Footprint.
The internationally recognised standard Environmental Assessment Method established by BRE is the market leader in providing a certificate of compliance.
It is aimed at helping building projects minimise their environmental impact and can be used to ‘rate’ new and refurbishment projects as well as existing business premises.
The areas of assessment include:–
- Site management
- Energy and carbon dioxide uses
- Living and working Environments affecting health and lifestyle
- Air, water and light pollution
- Transport issues
- Efficient use of land
- Enhancement of the ecological value of the site
- Material specification and sourcing
- Water consumption during construction and in use
In each part of the assessment a set of credits are applied, these are added together with an environmental weighting to give an overall score.
The development is then awarded an accreditation of PASS, GOOD, VERY GOOD, EXCELLENT or OUTSTANDING.
A certificate of compliance is then issued.
